fluidnotgel faq

the faq.

you ask. we answer.

A: We get asked this a lot. The WHO have indicated that "[gelling agents] may compromise antimicrobial efficacy" however the main reason is personal preference. As a company that uses hand sanitiser 5 times per day the importance of soft skin feel, less drying, no stickiness and lack of residue build up is very important to us. We work in a clean environment. Lots of IT and lab work. Designers using cameras and intricate technology. We don’t want gelling agent glupiness stuck around delicate buttons or on equipment. And users appreciate this cleaner feeling when using their keyboards and mice.
A: Yes. Although there is no official definition of what ‘medical grade’ means for hand sanitisers, the onus on manufacturers is to be truthful when making claims. After careful consideration, our position is that medical grade should be used only on products which meet the standard of the NHS ie. pass the EN 1500 test. Therefore fluidnotgel is medical grade.
A: It is important always to read the label of any hand sanitiser as the directions should (if written correctly) reflect the conditions that were used when testing the product. We recommend applying 3ml (a palm full) and rubbing hands for 30 seconds (until dry) and then waiting a further 30 seconds for the full cleaning effect ie. before you touch your face or surfaces. Please see the video at the bottom of the Formula page (created by the WHO) for application best practice.
A: We are passionately and actively against animal testing. None of our products are tested on animals. The only things we kill are viruses and 80's songs at company karaoke nights.
A: Unfortunately, as a responsible manufacturer, we are unable to provide medical advice relating to the use of hand sanitisers. We would advise speaking with your GP or Midwife so that they can give you an accurate recommendation tailored to your personal circumstances. To be helpful, we would suggest any risk would be associated with regularly breathing alcohol vapour which may enter the bloodstream. You may want to consider that risk against the risk of not using an alcohol based sanitiser. Your midwife or GP may suggest that you apply hand sanitiser outdoors to lessen the exposure to vapour which the alcohol is drying. And to only use when you suspect a risk and instead use soap and water where possible. We do not have data on any absorption of alcohol through the skin and you should speak to your GP or Midwife if you have any questions in that regard.

Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Aqua, Glycerol, Hydrogen Peroxide. Active ingredient - Ethanol (80% v/v)
A: No. We do not use any fragrance or colourants in our formula. Aside from reducing irritation and unwanted chemicals on the skin, we avoid using colours and fragrances as these may act as an attractant for children. Always keep hand sanitiser products out of the reach of children.
A: Yes - 100% vegan friendly formula
A: Sorry we do not offer consumer samples of fluidnotgel. Trade customers please contact us and we can arrange samples for your evaluation in the normal way.
A: We’re very sorry to hear that and rest assured, this is quite rare. If you are sensitive to alcohol this is likely the cause. Please ensure you cease use of the suspected product immediately and note that most other hand sanitiser contain alcohol. If you bought the product via, please contact our Customer Care Team at to discuss your concerns. If you bought via another retailer, please contact them directly for advice.
A: One of the few positive aspects of the 2020 Coronovirus pandemic was the benefits reduced economic activity had on carbon output and packaging consumption. Our company has a dedicated Sustainability Officer and we are committed to making fluidnotgel fully sustainable. This means reducing the amount of packaging (no cartons, refill versions to reduce pump wastage) and use of recycled material to make bottles (we are working to 100% recycled content in a matter of months). Our pumps are quite rarely recyclable without dismantling - just put in the recycling bin if not reusing. Even our labels are designed to be easy to remove in the recycling centre. For companies looking to make hand sanitiser part of their staple supplies like paper and coffee, we recognise that our values should match those of our customers.
A: fluidnotgel has been tested within spray packaging and it performs excellently. We do not currently have a spray pack at this time but it is a future development. You may decant fluidnotgel into a spray pack but please make sure your packaging is clean. An easy way to clean empty bottles is to wash with regular detergent and then carefully placing in / filling with boiling water for 5 minutes.
A: fluidnotgel is a clean formula with no artificial colours or fragrance. The ingredients list is as follows: Alcohol Denat., Aqua, Glycerol, Hydrogen Peroxide. Active ingredient - Ethanol (80% v/v)

A: Yes, we have independently tested FluidNotGel (our final formula) to EN 1500, EN 13727 and EN 1276. We are currently in the process of testing against EN 14476 although this formula has existing published data to show a 2 log reduction against the full virucidal test which includes enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. In addition to all our independent testing by a UKAS accredited laboratory, this formula has also been tested by WHO reference laboratories against the EN 1500 medical grade standard and passed.
A: Yes, after you order we can send business accounts the certificates by email. You can store these in your risk assessment file to ensure compliance with Covid-19 Secure guidelines.
A: Short answer - yes - but we cannot say on pack. A so-called “limited efficacy virucidal test against enveloped viruses” is required to make product label claims that the product can kill coronavirus. FluidNotGel is about to be tested at a specialist lab in Germany to this exact standard - results very soon. In the meantime, be assured that health experts including NHS, Public Health England and the WHO have confirmed that formulations containing 80% v/v alcohol are effective against coronavirus. The vast majority of hand sanitisers on the market have not been tested to EN 14476 and are not in the process of being tested. Furthermore, existing published data has shown a 5 log reduction in 30 seconds against enveloped viruses such as the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19.
A: For the purposes of hand sanitiser tests the British Standard (BS) and European Norm (EN) are the same. Often you will see EN 1276 written BS EN 1276 for example. We use the EN designation as this is most recognised worldwide in peer-reviewed studies that reference testing protocols.
